Aortic Aneurysm: An aortic aneurysm is a dilation of the aorta usually due to weakness of the wall. It can cause pain, and if ruptured, massive hemorrhage, shock, and death. Abdominal aortic aneurysms are the most common, but aortic root aneurysms and thoracic aortic aneurysms (further classified as ascending, aortic arch, or descending aneurysms) also occur.
